At the top of the street is Palazzo Pretorio, (Certaldo Wedding Hall) originally the castle of the Conti Alberti with its facade decorated with picturesque coats of arms in stone and glazed terracotta which record the Governors (Vicari) sent from Florence. Around the courtyard are the rooms where justice was administered, dungeons, and a chapel with a fresco of Doubting Thomas attributed to Benozzo Gozzoli. A terraced garden and a walkway overlooking the town walls provide a splendid view stretching from the hills of the Val d'Elsa to San Gimignano.

Pienza is a small town near Siena and is a rare example of Renaissance town building. Pienza is in the middle of Val D’Orcia, a wonderful and untouched valley.

Una gita ad assisi



Assisi è una città a circa 25 chilometri (16 miglia) a est di Perugia.

Questa bella cittadina medievale umbra, racchiusa fra le sue mura di cinta, è uno dei pellegrinaggi più importanti della cristianità. Non pensate neppure di portare una macchina, in onore della città di San Francesco d'Assisi, patrono d'Italia e fondatore dell'ordine francescano.

Il tour di Assisi si farà a piedi e può avere inizio da fuori città, nelle grotte del Monte Subasio, dove San Francesco e i suoi seguaci vissero.

La chiesa e il monastero si trovano nei boschi, nella sezione nord-est della città si trovano l'Anfiteatro e altri edifici romani, tra cui un teatro.
Nella parte occidentale della città di Assisi troviamo invece il Duomo, la Cattedrale di San Rufino dove è stato battezzato San Francesco.
Proseguendo il nostro cammino verso sud arriviamo alla chiesa del XIII secolo di Santa Chiara. Si continua a nord-ovest fino al Tempio di Minerva, resti di un tempio romano dedicato alla dea della sapienza che è diventata una chiesa cattolica nel sedicesimo secolo.

Si prosegue poi verso nord, verso la Rocca Maggiore, una fortezza che domina la città, ricostruita nel corso del Trecento.
Da qui la vista di Assisi e la valle di Spoleto, è semplicemente magnifica.

Se si è fortunati, la fortezza ospita mostre d'arte e mostre varie.

Abbiamo lasciato il meglio per ultimo. La Basilica di San Francesco è Patrimonio Mondiale dell'Umanità dal 2000. Le Basiliche Superiore e Inferiore sono stati avviati nel 1228, poco dopo la canonizzazione di San Francesco.

Una volta terminata la nostra bella camminata, a fine serata non c’è niente di meglio che ristorarsi presso un bel agriturismo assisi.
